I have to read Hamlet for book club/school. Thanks to Tennant, Hamlet now may or may not surpass Beyond Birthday in the epic revenge obsessed psychopath (well, sort of) list. The book has certainly earned it's place next to Tamora Pierce and Another Note on my bookshelf (yes, I sort my books by epicness)
A few weeks ago I was watching idly staring at the television while my dad set up to record an episode of something or other so we didn't have to be awake at eleven to watch it. Then something came on. This was what hapened. Me: (thinking) Hey cool, an episode of Doctor Who! I didn't know they still played those on the channels we get! Hang on, he's talking funny... that sounds oddly.. familiar... Hamlet? Why would the doctor be quoting Hamlet... Dad: (speaking) Hey cool, Hamlet with David Tennant! me: (speaking) Oh...
On the other hand, I'm proud of having recognised it as Hamlet, as it was a scene that I did not consciously remember at all.
May or may not have laughed and cried at the same time when I finally saw this moment. The order of roles I've seen him in goes 10th Doctor > Brendan (Secret Smile) > Hamlet, and I'm on my way to watching Blackpool.
It's like emotional response displacement. The Doctor was a lonely goofball and Brendan was a creeper of epic proportions. I don't know what to think anymore.
Just watched it and I'm rather thrilled at his portrayal of Hamlet. Leave it to Tennant to take the most emo prince of all time and throw in some of his trademark face-humor while still managing the most sincere and raw emotion the character's had in decades.
Also this picture is AWESOMESAUCE. Adorable and fabulous all at once. :3
